Just recently I had a previous bridal client come back to me for a birthday gift for her mom. She had a rough idea of what she wanted, a ring with a swirl that incorporated an opal. She sent me this screen grab, but she wanted something less generic.
Nothing wrong with this, just not my style.
I was envisioning some little bezel set diamonds in the bubbles and an oval or freeform opal.
Possible opal selection. Decided it was too large, client's mother likes smaller more delicate jewelry.
Choosing the exact opal to be used via text messages.
The final design settled on. We went with something a little more asymmetric.
The piece was cast in pink gold. We decided to go with a satin matte finish, rather than high polish.
Setting the diamonds. The piece is held in thermoplastic and then clamped in an engraver's block.
Pushing the prongs down over the opal to hold it securely.
